R&B star Brent Faiyaz continues empowering Black women entrepreneurs through a grant initiative led alongside his mother, Jeanette Wood.

As the world recognizes Women’s History Month, R&B artist Brent Faiyaz is making sure the celebration goes beyond words and into real action. Through his ongoing “Show U Off” movement, the Maryland native is continuing his mission of financially uplifting and celebrating Black women entrepreneurs — a cause rooted in community awareness and cultural responsibility.
The initiative, which originally launched alongside Faiyaz’s 2021 single “Show U Off,” has grown into a philanthropic grant program supported by the Faiyaz Freedom To Breathe Foundation. The program provides direct funding, mentorship, and resources to Black women business owners, with a special focus on the DMV region (Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia).
For 2026, the movement is awarding $10,000 grants to 10 Black women entrepreneurs, along with professional development training to help them scale their businesses in industries ranging from technology and STEM to community-driven startups.
A major force behind the initiative is Brent’s mother, Jeanette Wood, who helps spearhead the foundation’s mission and selection process. While Brent himself was not raised in a single-parent household, the foundation recognizes a reality many communities know all too well — a large number of Black women are often navigating entrepreneurship, family responsibilities, and economic barriers at the same time.

Because of this, the foundation places a strong emphasis on supporting women who are striving to build businesses and opportunities within neighborhoods where those challenges are common. Wood has helped guide the program with the understanding that empowering these women can create a ripple effect throughout entire communities.
Another unique element of the program is its intentional approach to recognition. According to discussions around the initiative, many recipients remain relatively private or anonymous, a decision that reflects the foundation’s purpose.
“This isn’t about clout,” Wood has shared when speaking about the program’s philosophy. “It’s about providing real assistance to women who are building something meaningful.”
Applicants typically submit short video pitches explaining their business vision and how the grant could help them grow. From there, recipients are selected based on both their entrepreneurial potential and their impact within their communities.
The philosophy behind the movement is simple but powerful: “Black people funding Black people.”
To date, the initiative has helped inject hundreds of thousands of dollars into Black women-led businesses, creating opportunities that extend far beyond the initial funding. By combining entrepreneurship, mentorship, and community empowerment, Brent Faiyaz and his family continue to demonstrate how artists can use their platforms to make real-world impact.
During Women’s History Month, the “Show U Off” movement stands as a reminder that honoring Black women is not only about recognition — it’s about investment, opportunity, and building generational progress.
