Bosstalk 101 sits down with founder Damon Leffall ahead of the upcoming Black Rodeo at Mesquite Arena.
Dallas, TX — On a recent episode of Bosstalk 101, hosts E CEO and Mz Jamaica welcomed Hip Hop Cowboys founder Damon Leffall to the platform for the first time, and the conversation quickly turned into a deep dive into culture, hustle, and the history behind the Black rodeo movement.
The interview kicked off with Mz Jamaica asking Damon about his upbringing. Born in South Central Los Angeles, Damon shared how life shifted when his parents divorced, leading him to move to Marshall, Texas at the age of 10. That move would later play a major role in shaping his identity. Growing up around the country lifestyle while still carrying the energy of the city eventually became the foundation for what people now know as Hip Hop Cowboys.

Before stepping into the rodeo world, Damon had already been around the music industry. As a former DJ, he linked up with Greg Street, who introduced him to major names like Ludacris, 2 Chainz, and the DTP movement. Being around that environment gave him the confidence and understanding of how to move within entertainment and culture.
As the conversation continued, Damon spoke honestly about life lessons, including getting married young and raising twins while still figuring out his direction. As he matured, he started looking for ways to create something legitimate where he could set his own price and build something lasting. That search eventually led him into the rodeo world, something he felt connected to because of his country roots in Marshall.
Breaking into rodeo culture wasn’t easy, but Damon explained that one of the smartest moves he made was bringing in experienced people who already understood the field. That move helped him build Hip Hop Cowboys, a high-energy event that blends bull riding, barrel racing, and team roping with live hip-hop, R&B, Zydeco, and blues music.
Held at the Mesquite Arena, the event has grown into a sold-out experience pulling in 5,000 plus fans, bringing together rodeo tradition and urban culture under one roof. More importantly, it highlights the often overlooked history of Black cowboys, whose presence has always been a real part of Western culture.
During the show, E CEO also highlighted the upcoming Black Rodeo taking place the third weekend in March at Mesquite Arena. The conversation got even more live when Dallas legend Big Tuck joined the show by phone, showing love and sharing his excitement about performing at the event while reminding everyone that Bosstalk 101 is family.

Before wrapping the interview, Damon answered one of the show’s classic questions for first-time guests — his top three artists of all time. His picks were E-40, Scarface, and Keith Sweat, a mix that reflects both the street game and soulful influence behind his journey.
With Hip Hop Cowboys continuing to grow every year, Damon Leffall is proving that culture doesn’t have to stay in separate lanes. From the rodeo arena to the music stage, the movement is about bringing worlds together and giving people a unique experience they won’t forget.
