Atlanta Mourns the Loss of Alley Boy at 45: A Zone 6 Legend Leaves Behind a Lasting Legacy

The city of Atlanta is mourning the loss of one of its most respected street voices. Rapper and Duct Tape Entertainment co-founder Alley Boy, born Curt Freeman, has reportedly passed away at the age of 45 after a lengthy battle with kidney failure.
Known for his raw lyricism and authentic storytelling, Alley Boy became a staple of Atlanta’s Zone 6 rap movement. Alongside his brother Big Bank Black, he helped build Duct Tape Entertainment (DTE) into one of the city’s most respected independent movements. His influence reached far beyond music, earning the respect of peers throughout the South for always staying true to his roots.
During a conversation on the Big Facts Podcast, Alley Boy reflected on how he earned the name “Alley Boy.” Growing up on Atlanta’s East Side, he spent much of his childhood in the neighborhood alleys, where the nickname naturally followed him into adulthood before becoming recognized throughout the city’s hip-hop scene.
His career also expanded beyond Atlanta when he joined Master P’s No Limit Forever, adding another chapter to an already respected résumé. The affiliation connected him with one of Southern hip-hop’s most influential brands while allowing Alley Boy to continue representing Atlanta on a national stage.
In recent years, Alley Boy openly shared his health struggles with fans. He revealed that years of high blood pressure, along with a previous codeine addiction, contributed to kidney failure that eventually required regular dialysis treatments. Rather than hide his condition, he chose to speak candidly in hopes that others would take their health more seriously.

Following news of his passing, tributes poured in across social media from artists and industry figures including Ralo, Rocko, DJ Scream, Big Bank, and many others, all recognizing the impact Alley Boy had on Atlanta’s rap culture and the Southern hip-hop community.
From everyone at Bosstalk 101, we extend our deepest condolences to Alley Boy’s family, friends, Duct Tape Entertainment, and the entire city of Atlanta. His music, influence, and contribution to Southern hip-hop will continue to inspire generations. We pray for comfort, strength, and peace for everyone mourning this tremendous loss. Rest in peace to a true Zone 6 pioneer.
