Did the Streamer Awards Play Kai Cenat? Viewers Think So!

The Streamer Awards are supposed to celebrate the biggest names shaping online culture, so why was it so badly put together and awkward?
Why was Kai Cenat, the biggest streamer in the world, treated like an afterthought, and shall I say, disrespected?
Kai dominated the streamer world this year. He’s not just a top streamer; he’s the face of the streaming era right now.
So when award night came, we didn’t expect it to be so “off”.
The energy around Kai felt muted. His impact wasn’t highlighted. Categories he was expected to sweep went to creators with significantly lower numbers and far less cultural momentum. Then you add in the bad jokes by people like FanFan, and the whole thing has sparked conversations, with some believing the exchanges were racially motivated.
Across social media, clip after clip went viral with the same sentiment:
“This feels disrespectful.”
It wasn’t simply about winning or losing. It was about acknowledgment. Presence. Respect.
Award shows have a long history of gatekeeping by celebrating who they want to uplift rather than who’s actually shifting culture. Kai Cenat represents a new generation of creators, especially Black creators, who built their platforms without industry co-signs. So when the biggest Black streamer in the world gets treated like background noise at an event built on streamer influence, people notice.
Are award shows truly reflecting the culture, or just protecting the culture they’re comfortable with? At what point will we as a people stop subjecting ourselves to these humiliation rituals?
People know what he deserves.
They know what he represents.
And they know that without Kai, streaming wouldn’t look the same.
Shoutout to Tylil for getting on the mic, and speaking up, but I’d love to see spaces specially for us created to avoid situations like this moving forward.
