DRAKE TURNS UP THE HEAT IN ‘NOT LIKE US’ LAWSUIT — DEMANDS KENDRICK LAMAR’S CONTRACT, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE RECORDS & CEO INVOLVEMENT

Toronto, Canada – August 13, 2025 — The hip-hop world’s most explosive feud of the decade is spilling further into the courtroom. Grammy-winning artist Drake is escalating his defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) over the release and promotion of Kendrick Lamar’s viral diss track “Not Like Us.”

The lawsuit, originally filed in January, alleges UMG pushed the track—featuring incendiary allegations of pedophilia—knowing it would harm Drake’s reputation and endanger his safety. Drake claims the fallout included threats, harassment, and even a shooting at his home. While Kendrick Lamar is not a named defendant, the Toronto rapper is now seeking to pull him into the legal crossfire through extensive discovery requests.

New Developments:

  • Kendrick Lamar’s Contract – Drake’s attorneys are demanding an unredacted version of Lamar’s UMG agreement, including financial terms, performance clauses, and any provisions tied to “Not Like Us.”
  • Domestic Violence & Paternity Records – In a bold move, Drake is requesting documentation of any domestic violence allegations or legal matters involving Lamar, as well as communications related to his children. This mirrors accusations made in Drake’s own diss track “Family Matters.”
  • UMG CEO Lucian Grainge’s Role – Drake’s legal team wants evidence of whether Grainge personally greenlit or influenced the track’s marketing—an angle that could help prove “actual malice” in the defamation claim.

UMG has fired back, framing the lawsuit as an overreach that misunderstands the culture of hip-hop battles. In court filings, the label argued that “Not Like Us” is “conventional trash talk” and protected expression within the genre.

Boss Talk Commentary:

E-CEO weighed in bluntly: “This ain’t just about bars—this is about business, contracts, and reputations. Drake’s moving like a chess player, not a battle rapper right now.”

Dr.Nessa followed with a reality check: “If Drake pulls real receipts on the CEO’s involvement or those personal claims, the game changes. This is more than hip-hop pride—this could rewrite how labels handle rap beefs.”

The case now moves into a tense discovery phase, where the court will decide how much of Drake’s sweeping request for records is allowed. The stakes are high—not just for Drake and Kendrick, but for the intersection of art, free speech, and corporate responsibility in the music industry.
