DRUMMA BOY COMES HOME TO MEMPHIS FOR A $1.2 MILLION BOSS MOVE

SOUTHERN LEGEND CELEBRATES NEW CONNECT MUSIC DEAL, BLACK OWNERSHIP AND THE CITY THAT MADE HIM

MEMPHIS, TN — Grammy-winning producer Drumma Boy returned home to Memphis to celebrate the city that built his foundation—and he came bearing a major victory.

Surrounded by love, culture and the people who have supported his journey, the Memphis legend raised a toast to his newly announced $1.2 million licensing and distribution agreement with Connect Music. The deal brings Drum Squad Records under the umbrella of the Memphis-based music company while opening another chapter in Drumma Boy’s long-standing commitment to creating hits, developing talent and building opportunities in his hometown.

The celebration took place around Memphis’ annual 901 Day, making the moment even more meaningful. This was bigger than a contract signing. It was a full-circle Boss move that connected music, ownership, Black excellence and Southern pride.

Drumma Boy also celebrated the grand opening of Walt & Ricky’s, a new Black-owned seafood restaurant located in downtown Memphis near the Mississippi River. By honoring his business milestone alongside the launch of another locally owned establishment, he placed the spotlight on something the culture needs more of—successful people returning home and investing their influence back into the community.

Before becoming one of the defining producers of Southern hip-hop, Drumma Boy was a young Memphis musician learning the recorder, clarinet and piano. Raised around classical music and soul traditions, he began creating hip-hop beats around age 12 and was selling production to local artists while still in his teens.

His move to Atlanta eventually placed him at the center of the Southern trap explosion. His unmistakable production style helped power records for artists including T.I., Jeezy, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, Waka Flocka Flame, Birdman, Drake and Lil Wayne. His catalog includes major records such as “No Hands,” “Money to Blow” and “Spend It,” along with contributions to T.I.’s Grammy-nominated album Paper Trail.

But this latest deal is about more than revisiting past hits. It represents control, infrastructure and the next stage of Drum Squad Records. Partnering with a company rooted in Memphis allows Drumma Boy to expand his legacy while keeping his city connected to the business being created from its culture.

The South has produced countless legends, but the strongest legacies are built when success returns home. Drumma Boy came back to Memphis not only to receive his flowers, but to plant new seeds. From the music business to Black-owned restaurants, this celebration represented what happens when Southern greatness meets ownership, community and purpose.
