Playboi Carti Breaks the Internet Again — This Time Through Fortnite

Playboi Carti has the entire gaming community in a chokehold today after his newly teased Fortnite skin sparked instant uproar across social media. What Epic Games hoped would be a major crossover moment instantly turned into one of the most roasted reveals of the year. Fans flooded timelines calling the skin everything from “overhyped garbage” to “the ugliest thing Fortnite ever dropped.” Agree or not, one fact remains — Carti has everybody talking.
During Fortnite’s Zero Hour event — a huge live finale that millions watch each season — Carti popped up in a way nobody expected. Instead of just being a character you can buy, he showed up as the main villain players had to defeat. Leaks showed a “zombie version” of Carti stepping out of a portal with his music playing in the background. Even if you don’t play the game, imagine a whole global audience watching a rapper show up as the final boss in a video game storyline. That’s the level of surprise and chaos that sent the internet into overdrive.

But Carti being part of video-game culture isn’t new. His music has appeared in NBA 2K, Madden, GTA Online, Need for Speed, and multiple Fortnite emotes. The younger crowd — the kids who love gaming but still tap into hip hop heavy — treat Carti like a superhero of their world. His style, his energy, his whole vibe fits the way Gen Z and Gen Alpha move, online and offline.
His journey goes back to 2017 when “Magnolia” turned him into a household name. That hit spread everywhere — parties, clubs, gaming streams — creating the wave that made Carti the cool, unpredictable, culture-shifting artist he’s known as today.

Fast-forward to now, and he’s still finding new ways to stay relevant. Whether it’s fashion, music, or now being the unexpected villain in a worldwide Fortnite event, Carti keeps showing he knows how to grab attention and shake up the culture on his own terms.
Fortnite Chapter 7 drops November 30, and people everywhere — gamers and non-gamers — are tuning in just to see what Carti does next.
