GROWING PAINS, ADVERSITY & SELF-INVESTMENT: COMEDIAN DALE ELLIOTT JR. JOINS BOSSTALK 101

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, comedian Dale Elliott Jr. has built his career by turning adversity into motivation. In a compelling conversation with Bosstalk 101, Elliott reflected on childhood challenges, cultural identity, mental health, and the personal growth that helped shape the man and performer he is today.
Elliott spoke openly about experiencing abandonment as a child and moving among family members. Looking back, he described himself as a troubled kid who sometimes mistook rebellion for normal behavior. A life-threatening motorcycle accident, which happened while he was riding with his uncle, became a major turning point. His recovery and the choices that followed helped set him on a different path—including becoming a college track star and attending the University of the West Indies, Mona, where he studied international relations.
Culture was another lively part of the interview. Elliott and Mz. Jamaica discussed the differences between Jamaican Patois, also known as Patwa, and English. Mz. Jamaica shared how she was raised to speak proper English at home, while Elliott said he is comfortable speaking Patwa in everyday life. He also explained that college and performing stand-up pushed him to speak more clearly so audiences could understand him. The conversation highlighted how language can shift with family, setting, and circumstance—and how staying connected to one’s culture can coexist with adapting to new environments.
E CEO also asked Elliott about track and field in Jamaica compared with the United States. The exchange brought out Elliott’s pride in his roots, with a few playful jabs adding to the energy of the discussion.
Elliott’s path into comedy was unconventional. A self-described risk-taker, he began by visiting local comedy clubs, spotting opening acts, and booking performers for shows of his own—sometimes offering more than their usual pay. That initiative helped him create opportunities and build momentum. Today, based in Los Angeles, he is the founder of ElliMedia and DElliott Entertainment. His work includes international tours such as Problem Child, No Hard Feelings, Son of an Immigrant, and Funny How Life Works, as well as comedy specials released on his YouTube channel, Dale Elliott TV. He has also acted in the feature film Sprinter and built a large online audience with skits about Jamaican life and the immigrant experience.

The Bosstalk 101 interview offered more than laughs. It was an honest conversation about growing through hardship, navigating change, and investing in yourself.
