In Loving Memory of Natina Reed

Some artists don’t just make music…they make moments. Natina Reed, Born October 28, 1980 was one of them. Born in Queens, New York, and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Reed was a preacher’s daughter with rhythm in her bones and imagination in her heart. She was a writer, performer, and visionary.

Natina’s journey started early. She was writing songs and acting before most teens even found their voice. At just 14, she won the Now and Later jingle contest, hinting at the star she was destined to become. Her charisma, wit, and lyrical gift made her impossible to overlook.

Her big break came when Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes discovered her. Left Eye saw a reflection of herself in Natina . She saw that she was bold, outspoken, and ahead of her time. She built the girl group Blaque around Natina’s creative energy, and together they formed a bond that represented true sisterhood in music.

In 1999, Blaque dropped their self-titled debut album and changed the sound of late-’90s R&B. Hits like “808” and “Bring It All to Me” earned them platinum success and cemented their place in pop culture. With her signature flow and poetic edge, Natina was the lyrical heartbeat of the group.

Natina’s talents didn’t stop at music. She lit up the big screen as Jenelope in Bring It On(2000), leaving audiences quoting her lines decades later. She later appeared in Honeyand V.I.P., and was working on solo music and screenwriting projects before her passing. Her creativity had no limits.

Tragically, on October 26, 2012, just two days shy of her 32nd birthday, Natina Reed’s life was tragically cut short in Lilburn, Georgia. She left behind her son, Tren Brown, and a legacy that continues to ripple through the industry.

Yesterday would have been her 45th birthday. We send a happy heavenly birthday to the unforgettable Natina Reed, a true original whose voice, energy, and vision still echo through the culture. May we continue to keep her memory alive by celebrating her art, her fearlessness, and the light she shared with the world.
