PIMPIN KEN SPEAKS ON PIMP C: LOYALTY, SOUTHERN PRIDE & THE UNFILTERED TRUTH

When Pimpin Ken pulled up to Bosstalk 101, the conversation quickly turned into more than just another interview. What started as current-event talk shifted into a deep reflection on the legacy of Pimp C — and according to Ken, the legendary UGK frontman was exactly who the world believed he was: loyal, outspoken, fearless, and unapologetically Southern.

Known worldwide from his appearances in the legendary Pimps Up, Hoes Down documentary, Pimpin Ken has remained a respected voice in hip-hop culture and someone who personally witnessed many moments behind the scenes with Pimp C during the height of his career. During the interview, Ken gave listeners rare insight into the mindset of one of the South’s most influential voices.

One of the biggest topics discussed was Pimp C’s admiration for 2Pac. While rumors have circulated for years about Pimp allegedly having a large mural of Pac in his home, Ken explained that he didn’t fully realize how deep that admiration truly was until after Pimp’s passing. According to Ken, Pimp respected loyalty above everything — and that loyalty heavily influenced how he viewed the music industry and many of the artists within it.

The discussion also touched on Pimp C’s alleged first interaction with Jay-Z during the era of the iconic song “Big Pimpin.” Ken spoke briefly on the tension surrounding the collaboration and how Pimp reportedly demanded additional compensation and perks before fully committing to the record. Ken even hinted there were certain comments Pimp made about Jay-Z that he chose not to repeat out of respect because Pimp C is no longer here to speak for himself.

But the heart of the interview centered around Pimp C’s fight for Southern identity in music.

Long before Southern hip-hop dominated the mainstream, Pimp C stood firmly on preserving what he called “country rap tunes” — music rooted in Southern culture, soul, slang, lifestyle, and authenticity. He never wanted the South to water down its sound just to fit into traditional hip-hop industry standards coming from New York or Los Angeles. According to Ken, Pimp believed Southern artists deserved their own lane, their own respect, and equal representation on platforms like BET and MTV, which he often felt overlooked Southern talent during that era.

E CEO also revisited the infamous 2007 Hot 107.9 radio rant where Pimp C passionately called out unnamed industry gatekeepers and questionable behavior in the music business. During the interview, Ken revealed that he personally knows exactly who Pimp was referring to during that explosive conversation — and claimed that Jazze Pha knows as well.

More than anything, the interview reminded listeners why Pimp C remains one of the realest voices hip-hop has ever seen. He was bold enough to speak uncomfortable truths, loyal enough to stand on his principles, and authentic enough to never compromise who he was for fame or acceptance.
