Rainwater’s Dope New Podcast (When It Rains It Pours) Brings DJ Akademics To Dallas For The First Time!

Rainwater once again sat down with E CEO on Boss Talk 101 for a wide-ranging interview. The conversation spanned his recent DJ Akademiks interview at Mo3’s gravesite, the NBA YoungBoy concert, Big E, his evolving philosophy on artist management, and more.

Rain revealed that his unexpected gravesite interview with DJ Akademiks was actually their very first encounter:

“It was my first time meeting Akademiks—I didn’t know anything about him.”

Unfamiliarity didn’t stop Rain from holding him accountable. He challenged Akademiks on the cost of turning industry drama into content.

“You know how you post King Von dissing this person or Yella Beezy going to trial, etc.? Ima take you to the aftermath of what happens…..this is a father who left his kids on earth with no father’s grave.”

Then came Rain’s sharpest critique:

“I believe he got more people killed than gangstas.”

It was a raw moment that set the tone for the rest of the Boss Talk interview.

Rain called YoungBoy’s show “the biggest thing I’ve seen in my life.” When asked if he had a hand in OC Chris performing, he confirmed it wasn’t luck:

“That was part of my plan from the get-go when Chris got his deal.”

This wasn’t Rain’s first strategic move. He explained how he’s been positioning Chris from the start bysecuring opportunities, and making sure his talent was seen.

Rain again addressed the fact that he no longer manages rappers in the traditional sense:

“I don’t manage no rappers no more. That’s for kids. That’s babysitting.”

For him, the role of a rap manager has become dangerous and thankless:

“Managers get disrespected and they die, and nobody give a damn. A manager can help you make a million dollars, but if the manager passes away, the manager don’t get nothing else.”

Instead, Rain has shifted into production deals and business partnerships—structures where he invests upfront and retains percentages, rather than “babysitting” artists.

On OC Chris’s Deal & Family Pushback

Rain broke down how his deal with OC Chris works, including upfront investment and a percentage of earnings, but he also admitted it hasn’t been smooth.

“Mama’s and daddies, they start questioning why I’m getting paid. One time his mama said, ‘I thought you was doing this out of love.’”

Rain’s response was blunt:

“Hell no. It’s business.”

He explained that skepticism often comes when a young artist starts gaining traction, but he sees it as part of the game.

Rain highlighted that his specialty has been taking artists with no buzz and turning them into stars almost overnight.

“I found a kid that nobody believed in… I took a kid nobody believed in and made them over $3.5 million.”

However, with that success comes resentment. He admitted many artists eventually distance themselves or complain publicly, even after Rain has elevated them.

“No artist has ever said I stole from them. Never.”

For Rain, the issue isn’t money—it’s work ethic and gratitude.

Rain compared his experience to other music executives like Carl Crawford and Birdman, who faced backlash despite putting money behind artists. In regard to Erica Banks, he said..

“Man, Carl Crawford paid $250,000 to get your song popping and he a horrible businessman? Every CEO got to deal with that. They put me in that box too.”

Instead of backing down, Rain embraced the criticism as proof he’s moving the needle.

During the sit-down, E CEO asked Rain to weigh in on the viral Say No to Sko take on mama’s, backed by Money Moses , he believes that “Mama’s are overrated!” The comment was aparked by the situation regarding Finesse2Tymes’ mom coming online to say he wasn’t helping her. Rain didn’t hold back:

“No. They stupid. … Nah. Hell no. That’s joy to my life to watch my mom be happy.”

He doubled down, explaining that while some people grow up with difficult relationships with their mothers, nothing could change the respect he feels for his own.

A recent hot topic came up during the interview when Rain addressed Big E’s accusations that he tried to sleep with her. Rain was adamant:

“I ain’t never tried to sleep with no Big E… I admit I did some janky [things] in life, but that’s too janky.”

He said the claim hurt him because of their working relationship and friendship.

“Big E hurt my heart saying that… you was my artist, my friend. I was just trying to change your life, man.”

Rain acknowledged making jokes that may have been taken the wrong way but denied ever crossing the line. He also pointed out that the backlash in the comments added unnecessary fuel to the fire.

This latest Boss Talk 101 sit-down showed a few sides side of Rainwater: the strategist who put OC Chris on the NBA YoungBoy stage, the cultural critic unafraid to put the heat (literally) to Akademiks, the businessman redefining his role in the game, and the man defending his name against personal accusations.

Through it all, Rain remained unapologetic: direct, defiant, and determined to keep his voice—and Dallas’s voice—in the conversation.

From Mo3’s legacy to industry politics and personal controversies, Rainwater once again reminds the culture why he stays at the center of Dallas hip-hop’s biggest conversations.
