🍖 Tendernism: The Internet’s Favorite Uncle Turns Viral Moment Into Ownership 🍖

Sometimes the internet gives you a viral moment. Other times it introduces you to someone who feels like family. That’s exactly how many people felt when Walter Johnson Sr., better known as “Uncle Tendernism,” hit timelines across the country with his unforgettable barbecue tests and his now legendary catchphrase — “Tendernism!”
For many viewers, Uncle Tendernism didn’t just remind them of a pitmaster. He reminded folks of that one uncle from down South who’s always manning the grill at family cookouts, cracking jokes, and making sure the ribs fall right off the bone before anyone gets a plate.
Bosstalk PRIMETIME 101 has been keeping an eye on the movement ever since his viral barbecue clips started circulating online. The California pitmaster built a following by doing what comes natural — showing real barbecue love and personality while working at Destination Smokehouse in Murrieta, California.
Things took off even further when viral food reviewer Keith Lee stopped by and gave the spot his stamp of approval, bringing even more attention to Uncle Tendernism’s charisma and pit skills. Soon after, the internet began calling him “The Internet’s Uncle.”
But like many viral success stories, the road hit a bump.
Earlier this year, reports surfaced that the restaurant owner had trademarked the phrase “Tendernism” without Johnson’s involvement. Fans quickly rallied behind him online, making it clear they believed the phrase, the personality, and the movement all came from Uncle himself.
By March 2026, Uncle Tendernism confirmed he was no longer with Destination Smokehouse. Shortly after, he delivered the news supporters were hoping for — he successfully secured the official trademark for “Tendernism.”

Now the movement is shifting into the next chapter.
With fans backing him through a GoFundMe campaign that raised tens of thousands of dollars, Uncle Tendernism is preparing to launch his own independent food business and food truck, giving him full ownership of the brand he built from scratch.
From Bosstalk’s perspective, this story hits home because it represents something bigger than barbecue. It’s about ownership, authenticity, and turning a viral moment into a real business move.
And if the internet keeps supporting Uncle Tendernism the way it has been, there’s a good chance the next time people hear “Tendernism!” it’ll be coming straight from his own truck serving plates that remind folks of home.

Tap in and stay locked with Bosstalk PRIMETIME 101 as we continue to follow the journey.
